kevin maurice sanderson, one of the three detroit techno innovators, was born in brooklyn, new york in 1964 and moved at the age of nine to detroit, where he attended belleville high school and befriended derrick may and juan atkins. starting out as a dj, kevin soon began producing records and introduced acts like kreem, inner city and reese & santonio. he also had many other aliases too, such as tronik house, kaos, essray, e-dancer or in this case reese. marshall julius jefferson was born in 1959 in chicago and began producing dance tracks electronically in 1985 when he was still working nights at a local post offices. in 1986 he wrote and recorded “move your body (the house music anthem)” with three postal colleagues, which was released on trax records and became his breakthrough. jefferson also produced under different aliases like hercules, virgo or in this case house to house amongst others. when the godfather of house music, frankie knuckles died at the age of 59 on march 31st 2014, the fast-moving (dance) music world stood still for a moment. the passing of one of our mentors hit many people hard, including prescription records co-founder and chicago native ron trent who participated three days later at cdr berlin, where he paid tribute to him in musical form. washington dc native george f. smallwood turned his back on a dream of a career in music in order to provide for his family by driving trucks for a living when a terrible accident intervened to rob him of his sight forever. finding gainful employment hard to come by, smallwood turned once again to music as both a possible vocation and a remedy for his soul. setting up a home studio, he buried himself in instrumentation and composition. eventually assembling a band of talented musicians, the marshmallow band, he began to record and release his own 45s.
