tunesday - mtume - cod i´ll deliver

philadelphia born and grammy award-winning r&b musician and songwriter james forman is better known by his stage name james mtume. he is the biological son of jazz saxophonist jimmy heath from the heath brothers, but the father who raised him was another great jazz musician: the pianist james „hen gates“ forman. with so much jazz around him, it is no wonder that james followed in his fathers footsteps and came to prominence working with miles davis between 1971 and 1975.

in the late 1970s james founded mtume, a funk and soul group that had several r&b hits during its career. the band raised to fame with their third album „juicy fruit“ from 1983, but some critics claim their follow up „you, me and he“ as the ultimate mtume long player. although the most succesful single was the titletrack, which became a huge r&b hit (no.2 on the r&b billboard charts) with some cross over pop action, the most outstanding track to me is „c.o.d. (I´ll deliver)„.

a synth funk masterpeice.
